So I know its been awhile since I last blogged, but things have been rather crazy in Madelyn-land. I finally graduated form my 6 week training at work - yes, literally graduated. We had a ceremony... and cake! And then a very lovely happy hour afterward where we *really* celebrated. Anyway, I spent the last week in my new home, at my desk in my lovely little office, with my fabulous office mates. So today, my boss called an ad hoc meeting for our team and was talking about making sure some of the other offices making steps to come to compliance with some new regulations. We were talking about what to do in the event that these offices didn't cooperate in the way they should, and my boss proceeds to say "We'll put 'em on blast." Let me just back up a minute and say that my boss is a lovely woman who's probably in her late 40s, very professional and very good at what she does, but she has two older teenagers at home, so she's fairly fluent in young-people speak, lol. My other team members are both older than me, mid 30s to early 40s, but don't have teenagers at home, so they both had a look on their face like "Wha?" My boss then looks to me, and I proceed to translate - "We'll call them out," and it was looks of recognition all around. It was by far one of the most interesting moments of the week - and oh, there have been a few. I love being the translator, lol.
Something tells me, though, that this is the beginning of something very good :)
Oh wow. So I had the opportunity to play Rock Band on Friday night, and I now understand what all the ruckus is about. It is seriously addicting. You have no idea. My friend's husband stood in line at midnight to get it, and he's pretty much had people over as much as possible to play it. So she invited me over to hang out, bring some more female vibes to the group. I got to her place and I wasn't going to play, (especially since it was mostly her husband's friends), I wasn't going to play, and then I played. Before I knew it, 3 hours had gone by. INSANE. It was continuous rocking out in her living room. And I was nominated to be the singer. Do you know how much power you feel when you've got a mic and a band?!?!?! Hilarity and good times were had by all ;)
I definitely liked Guitar Hero when it came out, but Rock Band is so much more incredible. More people are involved, the graphics are much better, and you don't feel like you need to vomit after two songs the way you do with GH. There's just something smoother about the way the stuff rolls out on Rock Band. Come to think of it, I'm sure the 62" television may have had something to do with that, lol.
I saw this commercial a few weeks ago, and my roommate can attest to my response. I was crying (literally, no-joke crying) it was so funny. I haven't seen it on television since, but I've been talking about it left and right. No one else has seen it, and I was beginning to think I was losing my mind. (Ok, so I might be losing my mind anyway, but at least now I can rest in peace about this little doozy.)
The ending is by far the best part, when the chicken is "ready." Oh my goodness... I just could not resist posting this to my blog to prove my sanity and to have it to enjoy forever and ever and ever and...
I work in a Federal Building in downtown D.C. The visitor's entrance is right off of Constitution. Our location guarantees a steady stream of tourists in the neighborhood, and sometimes they get lost confused. I had to go down to the visitor's entrance a little bit ago to pick up a patron for the library - we have more of an internal clientèle even though we're open to the public, so when non-DOL people come to use the library, we have to escort them in. Keeps the employees safe or something... (its not foolproofed though as we have learned the hard way, but I digress...)
So while I was waiting for this visitor to go through the metal detector and have his bags x-rayed (yes every single person who enters the building, whether they work there or not, has to go through the metal detector and have their bags x-rayed - I do it every single morning) I was looking out at the fountain and the street and I saw a group of people walking towards the visitor's entrance. There was one woman and three men. You could tell they were tourists because they were toting cameras and were wearing that look of "vacation." The lone woman in the group had a map in hand, and came inside to the guard's desk to ask, I'm assuming, for directions, while the three men stood outside, scuffing their feet around, hands in pockets, trying to look inconspicuous. I found this to be utterly hilarious - they were all middle aged people. And the woman was the one who went to ask for directions. I just found it highly amusing on a Friday afternoon. I just think its hysterical that the men were standing around, nonchalantly like they knew exactly where they were and where they needed to go, waiting, while the woman just had to go and ask for directions. I'm not articulating it very well - I haven't really articulated anything very well this week, it seems - but it tickled my fancy.
Here's something else that tickled my fancy... I literally was choking on laughter in the middle of the law library. Luckily there was only one person there at the time so I didn't cause too much of a disturbance.
Have a great weekend all! I'm off to celebrate the quarter century ;)
I know its been a long time since I last posted, and I've wanted to post, but its just been difficult. There's just been so much going on, so much to deal with, that I didn't feel like I should post. I didn't want to be too whiny and I also just didn't think that anyone would want to read what I was saying... lots of family and personal stuff. It really wouldn't have been good to post. But I'm trying to resurrect myself and come back to my loving Vox. Today I'm taking a step in the right direction. I wanted to share with everyone the excellent laugh I had earlier. Not only is it funny, but its a rather appropriate way to sum up how I've been feeling lately. I read this little doozy in the paper and actually laughed out loud, almost snorted out loud at work, and continued to laugh for a long time. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did...
